In over 20 years of existence, the life and production continuum Kompakt evolved from the early days of a small Cologne record store and an expanding family enterprise envisioned by Kompakt mastermind Wolfgang Voigt to an iconic label, a worldwide distribution, a music publishing house, a mailorder service and an internationally-operating artist agency. Thanks to the relocation into a company-owned residence on Cologne's Werderstrasse about 15 years ago, all facets and business areas of Kompakt have been consolidated under one roof - but at the core, you'll still find a well-assorted record store.

The local nucleus formed by the founding fathers Wolfgang and Reinhard Voigt, Jürgen Paape, Jörg Burger and Michael Mayer has since blossomed into a cosmopolitan and international hub for electronic aspects of living. Justus Köhncke, Thomas Fehlmann, COMA, Sascha Funke, Rex The Dog, Superpitcher, DJ Koze, Tobias Thomas or Matias Aguayo are but a few of the artist names associated with the Kompakt sound, at eye level with international headliners such as Kölsch, Gui Boratto, the Pachanga Boys, Patrice Bäumel and - of course - Michael Mayer, the quintessential Kompakt ambassador behind the wheels of steel.
