Bengoa is a Greek DJ, musician, producer and songwriter based in Athens and Mykonos, Greece. With influences rooted in ambient, techno, house, hip hop and trip hop, he’s built a unique but flexible style for himself over the years.
With the En Route EP on Sublease, Bengoa treats us to scenes from the summer in Mykonos - where each of these tracks were recorded. With an original 808 on hand, the beats are tinged with some retro vibes and baked in the Aegean sunshine.
En Route feat. Ian is a floaty banger with deep chords and a chugging groove, with passing hints of acidic transmissions.
The Dompe remix is deeper still, yet brings in a touch of jacking drums, creating the after dark counterpoint to the original.
Let’s Try Again puts those iconic 808 drums up front and adds in some floating chord stabs to create a timeless take on deep house.
Lastly, Bodytalk features Brothers’ Vibe with a co-production credit. Tony Rodriguez aka Brothers’ Vibe - a legend of US house music - adds a distinct 80’s / 90’s take on Bengoa’s vibe, resulting in an absolute secret weapon in the right hands.
