Performing restlessly worldwide for over a decade as well as producing hit after hit for legendary labels, alongside running his own imprint Agile Recordings.
Being a DJ, producer, label manager, computer music editor and after almost 20 years behind the decks, Uto Karem has a broad vision of what techno music is all about and has become a reference internationally.
Over the last decade he has been busy performing restlessly across Europe, America and Asia as well as producing hit after hit for legendary labels such as Plus 8, SCI-TEC, Tronic, Definitive, Global Underground, H-Productions, Suara or Ministry of Sound, with his unique trademark of groove induced, high-energy tracks that have become staples for DJs everywhere. His music has been played and supported by the likes of Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Marco Carola, John Digweed, John Acquaviva, Umek and Luciano just to name a few.
Uto's artistic career has been growing up year after year which lead him to appear in many of the major techno festivals and parties worldwide, like Miami Utra Music Festival, Tomorrowland Belgium, Carl Cox The Revolution Ibiza, Pacha London, Aquasella Festival Spain, Space Ibiza Closing Party, Soul Tech festival Mexico, Rex Club Paris and Watergate Berlin.
Born in a beautiful city by the sea in the South of Italy, Uto spent his junior years with his family in London, where his music ear was first shaken by bands such as New Order, Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. On his return to Italy as a teenager it was Underground Resistance, Novamute and Plus 8, as well as the Naples techno scene that were having most impact on the young man. Together with his friends he used to drive to attend the independent illegal techno parties taking place at the time and he had the chance to listen to many artists coming from Detroit, London and Berlin, many of whom have become the big players of today; and that’s where it all started. As Uto himself says “those were great times, a period full of energy and pure passion for the music”. This passion lead him to start promoting parties, getting in contact with promoters and meeting new bread of upcoming artists from that time like Marco Carola, Rino Cerrone, Gaetano Parisio and Davide Squillace.
In his late teens his DJ career took off and during the mid-90’s he started building up his name playing along with many of the world’s greatest deck talents, such as Jeff Mills, Sven Vath and Richie Hawtin in the main clubs of Naples like Old River Park, Metropolis and Cube.
As a natural progression he took two years to study Audio Engineering which lead him to develop his own musical ideas. At the same time he was working as an editor at the main computer music magazine in Italy where he was reviewing and testing all the modern technology available for DJ's and producers and had the opportunity to meet clever people with the passion for technologies just like him.
As well as being an in-demand DJ, producer and remixer, from 2008 Uto also runs his own Agile Recordings imprint. After many releases on great labels he felt the need to start his own platform where he could explore and express his musical tastes without limitations by releasing his material as well as the material of both renowned producers and new forward thinking artists. Many of the Agile Recordings releases have had a great reception and hit the top 10 on Beatport Charts, even arriving to reach No 1, and many of its 12’’ vinyl have been quickly sold out.
Furthermore Uto keeps attracting more and more followers with his monthly "Utopolys Radio" podcast, broadcasted since 2012 on more than 50 stations in 25 countries.
