Returning to Proton Music with a follow-up to his mid-2021 "To the Mood and Back" and a remix of Dabeat in June this year, Magitman once again illustrates why he's been such a storied producer over a 15-year period on the label. With a swathe of original and remix material, often with former production partner Roman Brisker between 2008-2010, the Israeli star delights once more with the sparkling twin-track "Daybreak". Showcasing a vibrant house-infused style, the title track flows breezily across its 5-minute timeframe with head-shaking percussive groove and blend of sunlit melodies. Revelling in a call-and-response framework, the shimmering arpeggios sit alongside powerful chords and a rousing bassline sequence. The result is a stirring tour de force. "Infusion" continues the house sound, quickly bringing a bouncing bass groove and immaculately placed percussive components to the foreground. The resulting rhythmic collage is heightened further by a squelching synth motif that filters in dynamic fashion. Evolving easily through an elegant sonic palette, the track picks up the pace with its funky bass groove as all elements come together in a silky-smooth 5-minute framework.
An artist who has hit the heights over a stellar career behind the decks and in the studio, D-Nox has been at the heart of the underground dance scene for over two decades. As part of the D-Nox & Beckers outfit and also in solo guise, the German has seen a plethora of music featured on the likes of Einmusika, Suara and his own Sprout. A quartet of remixes for Proton Music that began with a late 2005 debut and continued in 2019 after a 15-year hiatus, has seen D-Nox shine with reworkings of Juan Deminicis, Anton MAKe and Cream. Now taking on "Daybreak", the D-Nox remix is a glorious combination of melodic tropes from the original, housed within a strong dancefloor offering and smooth 4-to-the-floor rhythmic underpinning. The central motif from the Magitman original also makes its presence felt, as does a hypnotic bass pattern. A raft of new production material and dynamic melodies add to the interpretation with a wash of pads at the half-way point before taking off once more in the third movement to powerful effect.
An artist most recognised with his work as part of Dance Spirit, Christopher Mohn's solo career has kicked-off in hugely impressive fashion. A veteran of some 250 production credits for the likes of Superfreq, Kindisch and Bedrock Records, Christopher's debut solo work has quickly racked up support from the DJ glitterati with music on Wild Wolves On Acid and YOON Records. Now debuting his production magic on Proton Music, the Christopher Mohn remix is a seething Tech House infused Minimal monster that intelligently uses the key components of Magitman's original and blends them with a squelching bassline backdrop and chest-thumping kick. Pitched down arps and creepy vocals cuts are juxtaposed with lighter melodic components to create a mesmerising offering that is sure to appeal to DJs and club-goers alike in the hours before "Daybreak".
A final mix sees a return of Roman Brisker. Long-term production partner of Magitman, the pair have more than a half-century of tracks featured on the likes of Tribal Vision Records, Avangardia and Proton Music. Making a welcome return, the Roman Brisker remix is a deep progressive gem that revels in bouncing bass groove and light melodic juxtaposition. Intelligently using elements of Magitman's original, new motifs are delicately placed atop familiar patterns as "Daybreak" takes on a new and vibrant direction. Embracing a fluid and hypnotic vibe, the Roman Brisker remix is a superb and welcome addition to the EP.
